The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been keeping cricket fans on the edge of their seats with thrilling matches every day. Traditionally, IPL weekends are a treat for viewers, with double-headers—two matches in a day scheduled for both Saturdays and Sundays. However, in some past seasons, certain circumstances have led to only one match being played on a Saturday.
In an unexpected turn this year, the third Sunday of IPL 2025, April 6, will feature just a single evening match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT). This deviation from the norm has puzzled fans, many of whom are wondering why there’s only one game scheduled for this Sunday.
Why There Won’t Be a Double Header in IPL 2025
Originally, IPL 2025 had two matches lined up for Sunday, April 6. The first was a day game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, that fixture has now been rescheduled, leaving only one match to be played on Sunday.
The KKR vs LSG clash will instead take place on Tuesday, April 8, at 3:30 PM. The change comes after the Kolkata Police informed the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that they would be unable to provide adequate security on April 6 due to Ram Navami celebrations, a significant Hindu festival. In light of this, the CAB requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reschedule the match, and the BCCI approved the request.
“The decision follows a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) regarding the deployment of personnel across the city owing to festivities. The authorities have recommended that the game be moved to Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 3:30 PM, and the request has been accommodated accordingly,” the BCCI said in an official statement.
Ram Navami marks the birth of Lord Rama, one of the revered avatars of Lord Vishnu. It’s a widely celebrated festival in India, and is observed as a public holiday.
As a result of the rescheduling, match No. 19 (KKR vs LSG) will now be played after matches No. 20 (Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Gujarat Titans) and No. 21 (Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru), creating an unusual twist in the IPL 2025 match sequence.
