Gujarat Titans Sign Dasun Shanaka as Glenn Phillips’ Replacement

Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans have signed Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for the injured Glenn Phillips for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Shanaka, a right-handed batter, has been brought in for INR 75 lakh. He was previously part of the Titans’ squad in IPL 2023, where he featured in three matches and scored 26 runs, though he didn’t get an opportunity to bowl.
Dasun Shanaka brings considerable international experience, having played 102 T20Is for Sri Lanka, scoring 1456 runs and picking up 33 wickets. He has also featured in 71 ODIs and 6 Test matches for his national side.
Phillips suffered a groin injury during Gujarat’s IPL 2025 match against SunRisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad and was subsequently ruled out of the tournament. The New Zealand all-rounder has returned home.
In a further blow to the Titans, South African pacer Kagiso Rabada also left the squad due to an “important personal matter.” The franchise has yet to name a replacement for Rabada, suggesting they are hopeful of his return later in the tournament.
Gujarat Titans’ performance so far

Gujarat Titans have had a strong start to their IPL 2025 campaign, winning four of their six matches and currently sitting at the second spot on the points table. Their next challenge comes in the form of an afternoon clash against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, April 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
In their most recent outing, the Titans suffered a defeat against Lucknow Super Giants. The Rishabh Pant-led LSG successfully chased down a target of 181, winning with six wickets in hand and three balls to spare.
Despite the setback, Gujarat Titans have seen standout performances from Sai Sudharsan and Mohammed Siraj. Sudharsan has been in sublime form with the bat, amassing 329 runs in six games, which puts him at the second spot on the Orange Cap leaderboard. On the bowling front, Siraj has led the attack with 10 wickets so far, playing a crucial role in the team’s success.
The team will be hoping to bounce back strongly against Delhi and continue their push for a top-two finish in the league stage.
