The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took swift action against Punjab Kings batter Glenn Maxwell on Tuesday for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh. Punjab won the match by 18 runs, securing their spot in the top four of the IPL 2025 points table, while CSK dropped to ninth after their fourth consecutive loss.

Maxwell was fined 25% of his match fees and handed one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. “Glenn Maxwell admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 (abuse of fixtures and fittings during the match) and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” stated the IPL media release.

Article 2.2 of the BCCI’s Code of Conduct pertains to the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures during a match. It includes actions outside normal cricket activities, such as hitting or kicking wickets or damaging advertising boards and other fixtures due to frustration or recklessness.

Priyansh Arya stars in PBKS’s win

Punjab Kings discovered a new hero on Tuesday as young opener Priyansh Arya, who impressed in the Delhi Premier League last year, scored his maiden IPL century to guide his team to a thrilling win over Chennai Super Kings. Arya’s explosive knock of 103 runs off just 42 balls, featuring seven fours and nine sixes, powered Punjab to a total of 219/6.

In response, CSK struggled to keep up with the massive target. Opener Devon Conway retired out for a solid 69 off 49 balls, while Shivam Dube and Rachin Ravindran contributed with scores of 36 and 42, respectively. Despite MS Dhoni’s late cameo of 27 off 12 balls, it wasn’t enough as CSK fell short, suffering their fourth consecutive defeat of the season.
